Another day, another new record for a former Valley Leaguer! Today, it’s McLain Harris, one of the best relievers in the 2019 for Waynesboro, who just set the school record for wins at Young Harris.
On Sunday, May 1, Harris fired a complete game shutout for the Division II school in the Peach Belt Conference, allowing only four hits and no walks while striking out 10. His team improved to 33-16, but most importantly, it’s was Harris’s 23rd career win, setting the school record. He was also named the PBC Pitcher of the Week for his efforts.
He’s been amazing all season; he’s 8-3, 1.83 in 73 2/3 innings, with six saves, only eight walks, and 57 strikeouts. He’s only allowed 57 hits as well, so his WHIP is a tiny 0.88.
ATVL named Harris the fourth best reliever in the entire league in 2019, after he went 1-1, 0.85 in 21 innings for the Generals, while allowing only three walks and striking out 31. He allowed only two earned runs all summer. (I also called him McCLAIN Harris all year, unfortunately, only to receive a gentle tip at the end of the season that his first name is actually McLain. Sigh.)
At any rate, congratulations!
